Ariane Ahlmann’s paintings explore the dark side of human nature and the challenges that we face in the 21 century. The interconnection between power, ignorance, and climate change is a recurrent theme of her work. In contrast to the dark subject, Ahlmann provides symbols of hope and positivity in her paintings. Influenced by Expressionism and Neo-Expressionism, Ahlmann combines modern and postmodern concepts in her work.
Ariane Ahlmann was born in Berlin, Germany. The city’s unconventional spirit and counterculture have deeply influenced Ahlmann’s artistic development. In 2008 the artist moved to Brooklyn, New York and started showing her work in 2014.
