Fairy tales, folklore, and fiction motivate my imagination. I have a desire to express a world of fantasy that hides within me, often obscured from my vision. This world presents itself when triggered by scents, moments of nostalgia, dreams, and nightmares. It's the song that brings me back to moments a lifetime ago; the song then ends and the impression flees. Places that have been reclaimed by the ages, or are either frozen in or feel as though they exist outside the realm of our time draw me intently. Since I was a child, I have been looking for what is over the rainbow, what's down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass. What lies beneath the sea or in the galaxy above. I began exploring using different forms of art in order to reveal this world of fiction. I began with music, then moved through sculpture, painting and costume design. However, my childhood love of photography lived on well beyond the others.
Photography - specifically, film photography - was where the journey began at 7 years of age. The vast majority of the images I now make are on film. Film allows me to focus on the moment and create one image at a time - it slows me down. I am not distracted by the immediacy of seeing the results; making the photos becomes purely about creating. I am discovering how to utilize the collection of skills I have from all of the different mediums I have worked in. Once that happens maybe then we will see the world of fiction that lies within me which is awaiting its stage.
