Chris Volker is an Award Winning Artist living in Northern California, with a BFA in painting and drawing from The University of Iowa, an M.A. in Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. These are contemporary abstract paintings built up of richly layered surfaces of opaque and transparent color. The oil and wax create a translucency and sense of depth, using form, texture and light in each luminous layer. There is an interplay of conscious and unconscious processes at work and the viewer is invited to see what thoughts, memories or feelings may arise in them.
