Ghent-based Belgian artist.
For more than thirty years Geert Heirbaut has been working on a consistent path of developing his visual language and vision. What first was developed as a private magical world becomes now suggestive spaces where layers are weaving a non defined organic complexity.
In recent years he has been showing his art more and more to the public. His works can be viewed as a very personal view on the contemporary Zeitgeist.
I’m very passionate about art. For me it is not just illustrating or reproducing life, but it’s creating a proper emotional world where every stroke is a feeling, unnameable. My drawings reveals what I know and what I don’t. A successful brush stroke is the ultimate proof of my inner peace or turmoil and is therefore always expressive and unique.
My desire to tell stories and to structure chaos is by making use of the spectrum of contradictions. To name a few: thick – thin, clean – messy, out of control – controlled, fuzzy – direct, soft – aggressive, straight – organic.
So with each drawing. It has its own look, own character. Like jazz, one has to get it done right on the first go. The final drawing has to be a coherent organic whole and emotionally complete like a “piece of the heart”.
