My work is based around existentialism, in particular, our identity. The paintings are informed by evolution, the environment, the connectedness of the biosphere, the climate and its effect on our psyche- including solastalgia, a new word coined by an Australian Philosopher describing our current state of mind due to unprecedented and dramatic environmental change and its relationship between us and place at all scales.
There are familiar landscapes and odd biomorphic forms bringing familiar life into the paintings
For me, the creative magic lies within a mixture of experimenting, chance, rules and tapping into that energy and thought. Being the conduit, a manifestation of myself expressed in the paintings and to re-present the world/s as pure visual sensation.
