American painter Heather Dawn Batchelor refers to herself as a contemporary expressionist. Her abstract canvases use bold colors and gestures to illustrate her memories and experiences.
As long as she can remember Heather has been trying to find the right medium to bring a little of her fantasy world into the real world. Whether it was casting neighborhood friends in her newest play or throwing the best 1980s themed costume party, she always strives to create a big, beautiful story.
Heather was born in Indianapolis and grew up in Indy until her parents moved the family to a horse farm in Boone County, Indiana. Heather grew up with art and music a big part of her life; her grandmother was a painter and her father a photographer. After high school, she lived and studied in many different places including NYC, LA, China and
The Herron School of Art before finally settling back in her home state of Indiana and raising her children. She and her husband now reside in Ocala, Fl.
For many years Heather's creative focus was on building an equestrian handbag company. She started by designing whimsical fabrics and sewing bags by hand in her upstairs guest bedroom. Eventually, her bags would be sold globally on 5 out of 7 continents.
After the bags, she returned to her love of painting. She returned to painting to regain a sense of control of her artistic process and a way to escape into her whimsical fantasy world but soon found each painting taking on a life and story of its own. Always a storyteller, Heather’s paintings are a glimpse into her imagination where colors and
shapes are free to live and play.
Heather’s work has been shown in galleries throughout the country and internationally.
