JC Shadows grew up a native New Yorker “city kid” of the mid-1990's, enamored with the graffiti and street art scenes in East Harlem, the Lower East Side, 5Pointz in Queens and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. These childhood experiences evolved into a deeper appreciation and study of art, in all forms. He eventually progressed from a self-taught street artist to a contemporary artist, influenced by everyone from Warhol and Basquiat, to Richard Prince, Keith Haring and Damien Hirst. In the past several years he has been pursuing continued artistic growth with a renewed focus. His works strive to capture visually compelling interpretations of his obsession with appropriation and context on specific subject matters of social and psychological importance, and the disconnect with emotional and psychological development in the digital/social media age.
