John McCarthy is an artist, professional chef, restaurant owner and former attorney who splits his time between Chelsea, Manhattan, New York City and Claverack, New York in upstate New York. John is self-taught and is an expressionistic abstract painter whose works reflect, among other things, an immersion in music--particularly gothic, metal and punk—humor, irony and his love of Japan and all things Japanese. His works utilize numerous mediums and styles including acrylic, oil, watercolor, multimedia, collage, cold wax and spray paint. He also has a penchant for unique and thought-provoking titles to engage the viewer in a discussion of the contrast, and sometimes lack thereof, between the words and tenor and vibe of the artwork.
