An abstract fingerpainter, Kamelyta has always had an eye for bright contrasting colors. Her art is unique, bold, classy, quirky and definitely colorful.
“I love love colors! If I were given four things to live with (besides my children), they’d definitely be Music, Spicy Food, Toilet Paper, and Colors.
Colors make me happy. They make me smile, and laugh, and turn me perky! And that’s what my art is all about. Fun! Vivacious! Whimsy! Lively! Crazy!
With just one finger, I simply play with my colors. No rhyme or reason. I let my emotions, feelings and fervor dictate my finger. I don’t think, I don’t ponder, I don’t meditate. I just let go.
Every piece has a story and I tell them through my colors. My life, my appetite, my hunger, my sadness, my anger, my desire, my love, my happiness, my stories, are all in these magnificent colors. I become alive. And I hope that my colors will evoke the same emotions in others as they do in me. Life is indeed colorful. It’s bright and shiny.”
Born in Malaysia, Kamelyta has been living in California for over 20 years. When she is not painting, she’s busy hitting the heavy bags at a local boxing club or cooking spicy food. She has two wacky teenagers whom she admits keep her prisoner in the kitchen.
