Katie Thompson is a mixed media artist, designer and writer based in rural South Carolina. Her digitally created abstracts and collages explore the juxtaposition of natural and figurative elements with contemporary colors and compositions.
After becoming physically disabled in college, Katie developed an interest in the visual arts during an internship at Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC. Katie graduated from the College of Charleston in 2009 with a B.A. in Communications.
Shortly after college, Katie went on to join her now husband, furniture maker Joseph Thompson, as design partner in his handcrafted furniture business. She has also developed her own line of creative work, Black Swamp, named after where she and Joseph now live and work with their two children and dog.
Katie’s previous work has been featured in international publications such as Furniture & Cabinetmaking Magazine, and has been exhibited at the American Craft Council, Dwelling, The Target Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Arts Center, the South Carolina State Museum and others.
