Lucano Hinkle discovered his innate potential in photography as a teenager. He is a self-taught freelance photographer who has stopped at nothing in constantly improving his skill in photography. Starting from high school, he began taking photos using a 35mm camera developing black and white film.
In 2012, after contracting dengue fever and being in bed for 12 days, Lucano had a lot to think through. It was at this point he took a leap of faith to go full time into photography. He had to go all out for what he believed was more of a calling for him than a profession. This made him decide to buy photography gear and pursue a career in photography.
Coming from a family of watermen, the ocean has been a great passion for him. From surfing to swimming, to spearfishing , everything Lucano does revolves around the ocean, and having a camera in the ocean completes the circle, making his main subject the ocean and waves.
At the beginning of his career, he worked for Surfline as a wave forecaster in his hometown , Puerto Escondido. As time went by, he broadened his horizon by working as a freelancer for different Surfing Magazines globally. Some of which include; Surfer Magazine (US) Surfing Life (Australia) Carve Magazine (UK) HardCore (Brazil).
Based on the excellence of work, Lucano had received honorable mentions from IPA. At the moment, he has continued his quest in shooting waves and learning about the ocean and photography.
Lucano now lives in Puerto Escondido and constantly monitors the weather and waves searching for those perfect time windows in order to create his images.
